What is a Nodular Melanoma?

This is a type of melanoma that appears as a nodule or lump on the skin surface. 15 % of all melanomas are of the nodular variety.

It is very important to diagnose them early as theyare the most rapidly growing of the melanoma types and can become dangerously thick within a matter of weeks.

They are often non pigmented and present as pink or bleeding lumps on the skin which can make them more difficult to diagnose.

To try to avoid missing a nodular melanoma, it is useful to apply the EFG rule. Any skin lesion that is Elevated, Firm & Growing should be promptly removed and sent for biopsy to exclude a nodular melanoma. Learn more about melanoma treatment here.
